The co-chairs of the Boston Chapter of French Heritage Society invite you to a champagne reception, book signing and talk with Laure de Margerie,
introduced by Anne Poulet, Director Emerita of the Frick Collection, followed by an optional dinner.
Laure de Margerie will introduce her recently published book, French Sculpture: An American Passion. The book stems from the observation that French sculptures can be found all over the United States, and in a great variety of genres and styles. De Margerie unfolds the story of how these objects came to this country, and of who the actors in this trade were, politicians, collectors, dealers, decorators, curators, professors··· The presence of French sculpture follows the close relations between the two nations, since the very birth of the American nation to present-day collecting. Along the way de Margerie looks at the role and meaning of French sculpture in America’s ever-changing society.
