Château de Braux Sainte Cohiére (Marne)

The château is located on the former borders of the Kingdom of France and Lorraine, along the old Roman road. Philippe de Thomassin, seigneur de Braux, loyal Knight of Henri III and Henri IV was the first representative of the king of France in this region troubled by the wars of Religion. He built the fortress to host a regiment of the light cavalry, the well-known Chevau-Légers which will become the guards of the king in Paris and Versailles.

When Lorraine became French, the military fortress is transformed into an elegant 18th century château. Several families owned the château as well as the Institut de France from which the Pernin family bought it in 2014 and started a major restoration campaign.
