The iconic and unusual Pagode de Paris, located a stone’s throw from the Parc Monceau, was built as a hôtel particulier in the Louis Philippe style. Businessman and collector of Asian art Ching Tsai Loo purchased it in 1925. Working with the architect Fernand Bloch, he transformed the building into the Pagoda. In 1931, it became a landmark cinema showing art house films.
Today, La Pagode is one of Paris’s most fascinating buildings, renowned for its fusion of Asian art and architecture. The façade is painted red, while the sumptuous interior is richly decorated with 17th- and 18th-century lacquer panels from the K’ang-hsi, Ming and Qing dynasties, along with 16th- and 18th-century woodwork and a host of architectural details.
We will be welcomed and guided by Baroness Jacqueline von Hammerstein-Loxten, who is responsible for the rebirth of the Pagoda and the continuation of cultural links between France and China.
This is a French language visit.
