The Paris Chapter invites you to visit the Musée de la vie d’autrefois with Viviane de Witt, the museum’s founder, and learn about bobbin lacemaking with Sophie Mollaret.

This museum, which she created with her husband Jérôme de Witt, was born of the interest of one of the owner’s grandchildren in the life of his grandmother when she was a child. It’s a collection unique in France, featuring 105 scenes of daily life from the 19th to the mid-20th century, over an area of 3,500 square meters. One hundred life-size scenes are recreated with all the instruments used by our ancestors, some of which have completely disappeared. Designated a Heritage Site of Regional Interest in 2023, it joins the list of over 200 remarkable and representative sites in the Île-de-France region.

During the visit to the museum, our group will also discover the craft of bobbin lacemaking with Sophie Mollaret. Self-taught and passionate, she became a professional lacemaker some fifteen years ago, teaching bobbin lace, creating new models and regularly publishing works on the art of lacemaking. She also works on the restoration of antique lace, notably wedding veils, and has taken part in a training course on the restoration of lace and embroidery for the Comédie Française.

This a French language visit.
