I am lucky to have a home in the hills above the Riviera overlooking the perfume city of Grasse.  With abundant roses and jasmine in the surrounding area, the perfumeries of Grasse are home to the great “noses” of the world who concoct secret formulas for the great perfume scents of the world.  Interestingly, they also produce the fragrance of detergents and pet products!  In 1926, Eugene Fuchs opened a perfumery which he named Fragonard in honor of the famous 18^th-century Grasse-born painter.  Continuing their family saga, the Costa sisters, Agnès and Françoise, have expanded the Fragonard perfumes and soaps into a myriad of products: toiletries, decorative accessories, and clothes.  Beginning with a couple of boutiques in Grasse, they now have several boutiques in Paris where you can, at very reasonable prices, find grand gifts with an up to the minute Provençal charm.  Whether it is whimsical lingerie or shoe cases, beautiful Mediterranean inspired serving spoons with coral colored and shaped handles, brightly decorated cosmetic traveling cases, or shell fish embroidered cocktail napkins, you can find highly original gifts – whether for friends or just to spoil yourself – at the Fragonard boutiques.  Summer caftans, billowy shirts, and lightweight sweaters come in a variety of colors, many embroidered, for both men as well as women, which would be equally perfect in Florida or Southampton as well as Cap Ferrat.  These items can be found at their Parisian shops on the Rue Saint-Honoré, Boulevard Saint-Germain, one in the Marais, and even one at the Louvre in the shopping arcade called Le Carrousel du Louvre.  All are airy, light filled, and seemingly infused with the fresh smell of the sunshine, roses, and jasmine of the lovely city of Grasse, high in the hills above Cannes.
