On view at the Musée de la Légion d’Honneur through March 2, 2025, Les gardiens du geste (The Guardians of Gesture) features 41 portraits of craftspeople who worked on the restoration of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, painted by artist Laurence Bost. The exhibition pays tribute to the artisans who helped bring this architectural jewel back to life.
Laurence Bost will welcome us and lead this visit. The only artist accredited by the établissement publique Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris, Laurence spent almost a year closely observing the craftspeople at work, both on-site and in their workshops, and she painted the gestures and materials used in this extraordinary project with finesse.
Hank Silver, the American carpenter who spent close to two years rebuilding the wooden roof framing of the cathedral’s nave and who was honored at FHS’s gala in NYC in November, will also join us for the visit and the galette des rois afterward.
