Dive into the heart of a unique family saga, where the passion for 18th-century Sèvres porcelain transcends time. Between a love of beauty, mastery of exceptional craftsmanship, and a deep attachment to heritage, the Rothschild family weaves a precious bond with Sèvres, the birthplace of an emblematic manufactory that has been alive since 1740.
The exhibition highlights these Sèvres porcelains with shimmering colors and virtuoso forms: vases shaped like ships, elephants, pineapples, or towers, adorned with heads of goats, lions, nymphs, or children. In an immersive presentation, they will illuminate reconstructed interiors and interact with previously unseen archival documents.
For the first time, this project brings together the Sèvres & Mobilier National institutions with the Académie des Beaux-Arts, of which the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a jewel on the French Riviera. Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the family’s greatest “Sèvres enthusiasts,” bequeathed her Mediterranean villa in 1934—home to a fabulous collection of Sèvres porcelain—to the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
The exhibition benefits from exceptional loans from prestigious institutions such as the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles, as well as international institutions like the Metropolitan Museum and Waddesdon Manor, in addition to loans from private collectors.
We will have the privilege of discovering this exceptional exhibition with Oriane Beaufils, director of collections at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild (Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat), or Viviane Mesqui, curator at the National Museum of Ceramics (Sèvres).
This a French language visit.
