Join the Paris Chapter for an outing to these two châteaux on the occasion of the remarkable exhibition: “Audaces d’un style. Interiors under the Consulate”. We will be welcomed and accompanied throughout the day by Elisabeth Caude, General Curator of Heritage and Director of the Châteaux de Malmaison and Bois-Préau.
She will welcome us to the Château de Malmaison and will present the Château, enriched for the occasion with previously unseen works.
We will then have lunch at Madame Philippe de Grandmaison’house in Croissy.
Then we will go to the Château de Bois-Préau where we will discover the remarkable exhibition “Audacity of a style. Interiors under the Consulate”, which explores the genesis of a unique and inventive aesthetic situated at the crossroads of classical heritages and the political inspirations of a regime in transition. It thus offers us a renewed perspective on Consular art. The ten years from 1795 to 1804 saw the flourishing of a rich and vibrant art of living. The taste of the party of the gilded and extravagant youth of the Directory was met, under the Consulate, by the appetite for luxury of a society undergoing profound transformation. “Audaces d’un style” thus reveals —through some 130 works from prestigious public and private collections (furniture, objets d’art, textiles, drawings, graphic arts)—the advent of a new decorative language which permeates the interiors of the most prominent personalities.
This is a French language visit.
