Both a place of creation and transmission, le19M is an exceptional architectural work designed by Rudy Ricciotti, winner of the Grand Prix d’Architecture, whose mission is to showcase the expertise of artisans and creators. A unique venue that houses workshops, a school, and a gallery open to all audiences.
Serving as a link between Paris’s 19th arrondissement and the town of Aubervilliers, this unique 25,500 m² space was created on the initiative of Chanel. The name of the venue is highly symbolic: 19 represents both the arrondissement where the site is located and one of Gabrielle Chanel’s favorite numbers. The M refers to the words “Mode,” “Mains,” “Métiers d’art,” “Maisons,” and “Manufactures.”
A place of work, transmission, and preservation of heritage, le19M is the culmination of a journey that began in 1985, when the House of Chanel bought the first workshops and art manufactories with which it worked in order to preserve and cultivate their expertise.
A testament to the excellence of these future-oriented professions that are the Métiers d’art, le19M building, an architectural challenge, celebrates the union of the head, the heart, and the hands.
After a general introduction to le19M, during this exceptional tour the Paris Chapter members will discover the Studio MTX showroom, then the Lesage Intérieurs showroom, and finish with a visit to the Lesage Archives.
This a French language visit.
