Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York City

2014 Grant of $20,000 - New York Chapter

In September 2014 a project of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, Albertine Books, a retail bookstore and reading room for an American audience, became the first physical French bookstore in New York City since the Librairie de France in Rockefeller Center closed its doors in 2009. Housed in the official landmark Payne Whitney mansion, and designed by Jacques Garcia, Albertine is the only reading room and bookstore in the city devoted solely to books in French and English translations of French books. It has more than 14,000 contemporary and classic titles, graphic novels, children's books and some rare editions, from 30 French-speaking countries.

The budget for the project was $5.3 million dollars. French Heritage Society's New York Chapter made a grant of $20,000 to the project and Co-Chairman Odile de Schiétère-Longchampt is also a donor along with the Florence Gould Foundation, Fondation Total, Fondation du Patrimoine, and other donors brought by FHS.
