Co-Chairmen of the Young Patron Circle Paris
invite you to discover the exhibition Rouge by Jean-Loup Champion at Galerie Pierre-Alain Challier. After the visit we will enjoy cocktails on the terrace. We look forward to seeing you there.
Gallery owner Pierre-Alain Challier will show us his gallery as well as the new reliefs and sculptures by Jean-Loup Champion, sculptor and editor at Gallimard. Editor, art historian, curator, Jean-Loup Champion has also pursued a career as a sculptor since 2006, having had by several solo exhibitions in Paris, New York, Chicago and Naples. Working in thematic sets, after numerous works embedded inside “boxes” like so many small theaters, then a large number of “tombs”, where the figures, praying or reclining, surmount monuments of wood and stucco. Jean-Loup Champion presents, for the first time, a new theme characterized by the color red, but also by materiality, playing with wood, bones, textures, fabrics and iron spikes peircing through canvas, sculptures and frame. Among the sixty works on display, paintings and sculptures, only one bronze – Reliquary (small version) will be presented in the fall of 2022 at the Louvre Museum in the exhibition Les Choses, curated by Laurence Bertrand Dorléac. This is the artist’s third solo exhibition at the gallery.
Layed out by the designer Christophe Pillet, in former workshops, the Pierre-Alain Challier Gallery, located in the heart of the Marais, has been at the center of must-see contemporary art galleries since 2007. In parallel, a selected set of exclusive limited editions is permanently presented, and staged in the style of a contemporary Cabinet of Curiosities. The gallery presents 8 to 10 temporary exhibitions each year and also promotes the work of young French and foreign artists.
The gallery presents and ensures the continuity of the famous collections of art objects from the former ARTCURIAL gallery, displaying since 1975 major artists of the 20th century, from Sonia Delaunay to Arman, Man-Ray, Jean Cocteau, Zao Wou -Ki, Jean-Pierre Raynaud and Robert Combas.
As the gallery can only accommodate a limited number of guests, this event is reserved primarily for members of the Young Patrons Circle, subject to availability. Please note that the visit will start at 7:30 p.m. sharp. In French.
