Antoinette Le Normand-Romain, Conservateur général du patrimoine, will discuss the Americans love of Rodin’s work and their passion for collecting it. Rodin was appreciated very early in the United States: the first collectors bought his works at the end of the 19th century, notably the Metropolitan Museum. His fame never ceased to grow since and his works can be found at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia and, more recently, the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford.

The United States is thus the only country, apart from France of course, where it is possible to have a complete vision of Rodin’s work. All aspects of his work, all the techniques and all the materials he used (terracotta, plaster, marble, bronze, still pencil, watercolor, drypoint…) are present through magnificent works that reflect both his personal research and the admiration he inspired in American collectors and, through them, the history of taste. We will be received in a very beautiful mansion in the 7th arrondissement.
In French.
