New York Chapter: Celebrating 500 Years of Leonardo da Vinci

New York Chapter

Wednesday, September 25, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Event Navigation

2019 marks the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, with exhibitions commemorating the legendary artist worldwide, including a major retrospective at the Louvre opening in October and an important loan from the Vatican currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  In an in-depth discussion of some of his most well-known works, Page Knox will explore the unique life and creative mind of one of the most renowned geniuses of all time. Whether you are planning to visit the exhibition in Paris to see the Mona Lisa and the other four major pictures by Leonardo in the Louvre’s collection, or viewing his St. Jerome in the Wilderness in New York, the lecture will prepare you for the experience, placing these paintings in context and exploring how his continual investigation of the natural world brought life to his exceptional body of work.

The discussion will begin at 6:30pm, with cocktails to follow.

Page Knox is an adjunct professor in the Art History Department of Columbia University, where she received her PhD in 2012. She works in a variety of capacities at the Metropolitan Museum of Art giving public gallery talks and lectures in special exhibitions as well as the permanent collection,  teaching classes at the museum, and leading groups for Travel with the Met.
