Please note change of date to Thursday, March 5th (instead of March 3rd)
The FHS New York Chapter, in partnership with the American Friends of l’Abbaye de Lagrasse, invite you to a lecture by Didier Repellin, Architecte en Chef, Inspecteur Général des Monuments Historiques and FHS Honorary Director, under the high patronage of Madame Anne-Claire Legendre, Consule Générale de France, and Elizabeth F. Stribling, Chairman of the Board of French Heritage Society, in the presence of the Très Révérend Père Emmanuel-Marie, Abbé des Chanoines de Lagrasse.
The lecture will focus on the incredible history of the Abbaye de Lagrasse, an FHS grant recipient, which presents a veritable catalog of architecture from the 10th – 18th century and bears the traces of eminent political and spiritual influences. The Abbaye de Lagrasse, located in Languedoc, is above all a remarkable natural site, first settled over 1000 year ago. The site encompasses “years of human expressions in the architecture of a sacred site.” The Abbaye is listed on the National Register due to the splendor of the buildings and the authenticity of the natural site. It is the great osmosis between these elements that has created a place of light and peace, bringing to everyone a timeless spiritual serenity. Even though the site has witnessed many tragic events such as war, disease, revolution…etc., the Abbaye will always survive, due mainly today to an amazing young, radiant community.
A cocktail reception to follow.
