FHS at Home: Meet the Owners Series
An Intimate Look at Three Restoration Projects Supported by FHS Chapters
French Heritage Society, in collaboration with its Atlanta, Dallas, Louisiana, New York and Northern California Chapters is pleased to present this Meet the Owners Series in English. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at what owning and maintaining an historic château or domain entail and how FHS grants offer key support and encouragement.
Our final event in the series on Tuesday, June 26th at 3pm EST/ 9pm Paris features Alex & Albane de Grailly of the Château de Panloy (Charente-Maritime). This new generation of owners, brother and sister, has a strong desire to make the estate a more vital part of the local community and has already restored the chapel and renovated the 18th-century château, a former hunting lodge. Their goal is to renovate the out-buildings in order to welcome school children for field trips both to discover the historic château and its natural setting that offers numerous ecological sites to explore. The dynamic owners welcome 10,000 visitors per year, a seven-fold increase since 2015. The château received a grant of $15,000 from FHS’s Atlanta, Louisiana, and Northern California Chapters for the restoration of the dovecote dating from 1620, one of the most complete and best-preserved dovecotes of the region, whose framework risked collapse. This structure is important for the ecological focus of the owners in partnership with the Conservation League for Birds and local associations to preserve their habitats.
This virtual event series is $25 per event. All ticket proceeds from each event support funding of the Chapter grants for the restoration project featured in that conference. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, FHS was able to award $166,000 in restoration grants in 2020 in large part thanks to the efforts of its 11 Chapters. This is your chance to support them and Meet the Owners!
