Innovation in Action: How Château Owners Across France Are Using Social & Digital Media to Support Vital Restoration Work
French Heritage Society is thrilled to offer this virtual event series in partnership with our Young Patrons Circle, featuring intimate chats in English with dynamic château owners. As the ongoing pandemic has derailed the guest house and events businesses that support the restoration and continual upkeep of many historic properties, creative caretakers have taken advantage of a worldwide captive audience in need of escapism. Using YouTube vlogs, Instagram posts, crowdfunding platforms, and even a British reality show, they have successfully garnered support for their mammoth projects while raising awareness of the wealth of French architectural and cultural heritage still in need of preservation.
Our third virtual chat on May 5th features Philipp & Anna Mayrhofer of Château Gonneville-sur-Honfleur. The couple purchased their property only two years ago with the aim of breathing new life into the 18th C hunting lodge as a family home and luxury guest house business. Anna’s background in fashion design brings a signature traditional-meets-modern style to their renovation work, including wallpaper she designs herself and thoughtfully sourced furnishings. Philpp’s skills as a filmmaker have helped the couple document their hard work and daily life with their two daughters on a new and fast-growing YouTube channel called “How to Renovate a Chateau (without killing your partner).”
This virtual event series is free to FHS members, $15 per event for non-members or $75 for the entire series. All ticket proceeds support our mission of preservation, education, and cultural exchange.
