Innovation in Action: How Château Owners Across France Are Using Social & Digital Media to Support Vital Restoration Work
French Heritage Society is thrilled to offer this virtual event series in partnership with our Young Patrons Circle, featuring intimate chats in English with dynamic château owners. As the ongoing pandemic has derailed the guest house and events businesses that support the restoration and continual upkeep of many historic properties, creative caretakers have taken advantage of a worldwide captive audience in need of escapism. Using YouTube vlogs, Instagram posts, crowdfunding platforms, and even a British reality show, they have successfully garnered support for their mammoth projects while raising awareness of the wealth of French architectural and cultural heritage still in need of preservation.
Our fourth virtual chat on May 12th features Alex & Ithaca de Boncourt of Château d’Humeroeuille (nicknamed Le Château Flore). The historic property in the Pas-de-Calais region has been in Alex’s family since it was built in 1717. Its gardens have been cultivated and expanded throughout the past few decades, and the property has been open to the public since 2000. The current caretakers have been innovative in their use of the gardens to support renovation work, including a now-annual brocante and flower show called “Le Grenier du Château Flore,” which was featured on the popular British reality show “Escape to the Chateau: DIY,” and has provided much-needed support to supplement grant funding for the recent restoration of the Château’s slate roof.
This virtual event series is free to FHS members, $15 per event for non-members or $45 for the entire series. All ticket proceeds support our mission of preservation, education, and cultural exchange.
