The Chicago Chapter of the French Heritage Society presents

“Hidden in Plain Sight”:  A Sunday Salon with Fresh Eyes on Illinois French Heritage

Marquette, Jolliet, La Salle, and DuSable: Why are these French names all over Chicago?

Take part in a centuries-old tradition while forging new paths of discovery about Chicago.

In the tradition of the French Salon, we look forward to spending an engaging morning learning about the French influence in the Illinois country through the lens of four French explorers deeply tied to Chicago’s identity. Our lineup of scholars will shine a light on this history by sharing stories of those whose names are better known today for their appearances on street signs, parks, and buildings throughout the city rather than their accomplishments and deep French historical roots.

The salon will begin with coffee and croissants and will conclude with a box lunch and glass of wine to toast to your newly acquired expertise. Reception and book signing to follow. Virtual attendance via Zoom is also available; a Zoom link will be send in advance of the conference. To register online for either in person or virtual participation, please use the Paypal dropdown menu below. To register by phone, or for more information, please contact Benjamin Wells, FHS Programs and Membership Officer (212-759-6846, ext.201).
