The FHS Atlanta Chapter will welcome author Maureen Footer for a luncheon, presentation, and book signing.
In her new book, Dior and His Decorators: Victor Grandpierre, George Geffroy, and The New Look, author and design historian Maureen Footer examines the connection between fashion and the decorative arts via the collaboration of couturier Christian Dior with two post-war Parisian decorators, Victor Grandpierre and George Geffroy, both friends of Dior.
In parallel with Dior’s “New Look,” Grandpierre and Geffroy forged a new aesthetic for Parisian interiors that drew on the same inspiration and technique as Dior’s clothes. Mixing 18th century and Belle Époque influences with a modern point of view, the New Look in both couture and interiors captivated a war-weary public, single-handedly revived Parisian couture, and reestablished Paris as the international arbiter of taste.
