Venetian Room (New York City)

2017 Grant of $25,000 with the support of the Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation   The ornate Venetian Room is located at the Culutral Services of the French Embassy in the United States in New York City. Since 1952, France has owned the Payne Whitney mansion, located at 972 Fifth Avenue between 78th and 79th Streets. With a fantasy Venetian Room replicated in the Italian Renaissance style and marble reception halls,  the Payne Whitney mansion is “one of the jewels of Fifth Avenue and one of the last relics of the Gilded Age.” The Venetian Room was the very last creation in 1906 of the well-known architect Stanford White. This grant will help restore the Venetian Room, an emblematic example of interior design during the Gilded Age.
